Churchill Fellowship Update – Raising Standards at Northern Bay College

As part of the Principal’s educational research visit to Australia, identifying and evaluating alternative measures of pupils’ progress and attainment, she recently spent two days learning about a highly progressive programme developed by Northern Bay College, in Victoria.

Serving one of Australia’s poorest communities, the School utilises a range of data to identify individual pupil learning needs and actions, curriculum pathways and resources, leading to a significant rise in pupil performance.

The programme was inspired by Professor Hattie, Director of the Melbourne Educational Research Institute at the University of Melbourne, and brings together the department of education, local employers and the Universities.

As part of the Fellowship visit, the Principal will be undertaking research at Melbourne University and meeting with Professor Hattie, to further develop an understanding of assessment systems and measures of pupil progress.
