Royal Society of Chemistry’s Top of the Bench Competition

On Thursday evening, a team of keen Chemists took part in the RSC’s competition – Top of the Bench. The team consisted of Theo Fitch (Year 10), John Jeffery (Year 10), Keelan Sloan (Year 11) and Nkosinathi Khumalo (Year 12). Partaking in the competition is part of our Science Enrichment programme at school, and it was great to see the pupils getting involved with Chemistry outside of the school laboratory.

The team completed two tests – one written paper and one practical examination; both of which stretched and challenged the boys’ previous Chemistry knowledge. Although the tests were challenging, the team really enjoyed their experience, and finished off the evening with a tour of the School of Chemistry – including their NMR and Mass Spectrometer at Queen’s University.
