Last Saturday saw the School 1st VIII take to Lough Erne for the annual Erne Head of the River. It is a 6km course that tests both oarsman and cox, as its tight bends and long straights give lots of opportunity to test even yourself against some of the best crews in Ireland. On what turned out to be a glorious Spring day for Rowing the Inst boys went up against some incredibly strong competition, and took the opportunity to compare themselves to the best senior and university crews in the country.
They put in a strong row over the course, getting a good time of 21minutes and 1 second, which should provide a good starting point for the crew (Callum Harley, Harry Hetherington, James Emery, Tim Lyons, Angus Harley, Tom Glynn, Daniel Lowry, William McMullan and Hugo Lowe) as they look to build into the regatta season over the coming weeks.
Well done to all the boys and a big thank you to the Maurice Warnock, Josh Hoy and Rebecca Davison for their help on the day.
The next outing for the Club will be at Lagan Head, Saturday March 18th, which will feature the 1st VIII (racing from the Odyssey at 1430), along with a J18 4x-, J16 4x+, Club 1x and J18 1x (all racing from the Albert Bridge from 1100), we look forward to having as much support as possible for the boys on the day.
