Ben Wylie Selected for Ireland ‘A’

Many congratulations to Head Boy Ben Wylie who has been selected for the 12 man Ireland ‘A’ squad to face MCC at Lord’s on Monday 23rd April. This is an outstanding achievement for a schoolboy to be selected for an Ireland Senior team and we wish him every success in his continued development at this elite level.

Ben is the current school cricket 1stXI captain and was a vital member of the Schools Cup winning team in 2011.

Also congratulations to former RBAI pupil James Shannon who will captain the Ireland ‘A’ team for the first time in this fixture against MCC. James has to date played 16 times for the ‘A’ side and impressed with a brilliant 123 against Sussex 2nd XI last August, which saw him drafted into the senior squad for the Intercontinental Cup games with Namibia and Canada. He was also one of four reserves named for the recent ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE.

The school is also fortunate to have Mr. R. McCann employed at the school as Learning Mentor and as a Cricket coach. Mr. McCann has been named as wicket-keeper for the Ireland ‘A’ team and was part of the full Ireland squad that competed in the recent ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE.

The squad in full is as follows: James Shannon (Instonians) (Captain), Ben Ackland (Merrion), John Anderson (Merrion), Peter Connell (CIYMS), Tom Fisher (Railway Union), Rory McCann (Instonians), Graeme McCarter (Fox Lodge), Barry McCarthy (Pembroke), Niall McDonnell (Strabane), Lee Nelson (Waringstown), Stuart Thompson (Limavady), Ben Wylie (Instonians).
