The Principal, Mr D O’Neill (Master in Charge of School Cricket) and the Captains of the RBAI Cricket XIs joined representatives of the Instonians Cricket Section to display the Cricket trophies won during the 2012 season.
The Instonian Cricket Section was represented in assembly by Club president Mr Ian Dickie, Eugene Moleon, Andrew Rose, John Stevenson, James Shannon and Ben Wylie who brought with them the highly impressive NCU Senior Cup, the NCU U13 Cup and NCU U11 Trophy which the Club have won during the season just ended. Also on display were the NCU Schools’ McCullough Cup, U13 Mourne Cup & Moyallen Shield and U14 League trophies won by School XIs.
Mr McKinstry welcomed the guests and congratulated the Club on an outstanding season which saw them win the NCU Senior Cup for the 4th time, finish runner up in the Senior League and T20 competition. To mark his ten year contribution to cricket at School and Instonians, Eugene Moleon was invited to address the School. Eugene spoke of his pride in the many cricket successes this Summer and the huge contribution made by current pupils and recent former pupils, including the two Man of the Match awards won by Ben Wylie (Head of School 2012 – 13) and the two Man of the Match awards won by James Shannon en route to the NCU Senior Cup success.
Eugene challenged his audience to continue to work hard and strive to be the best they can be both academically and in whatever extra-curricular activities they participate in and looked forward to the next generation of Inst cricketers following in the footsteps of James Shannon (Irish International and Irish A XI Captain) and Ben Wylie (Ireland A XI and Ireland U19 XI)
