Wednesday 24th October saw the launch of the fourth Northern Ireland Children’s Book Award in Christ Church. Pupils from 31 schools across the Province participated in the event launched by Joe Craig, author of the popular Jimmy Coates series.
The brain child of our librarian extraordinaire, Mrs Lindsay and Mrs Cowdrey of Bangor Grammar School, the NI Book Awards have not only encouraged our pupils to read, they have also lead to communication between many diverse schools representing a variety of traditions and sections across the community .
From Strabane to Keady, and Omagh to Bangor, the participating schools may be geographically spread out across the Province, but by coming together physically for workshops and events and virtually through the interface of the dedicated website www.nibookaward.org.uk the isolated activity of reading becomes the very communal one of sharing of views.
