Fencing: Public Schools’ Fencing Championships

Congratulations to the fencers who competed at the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in London just before the Easter break.

On Tuesday 18th March, eight pupils along with Miss Lamrock and fencing coach Katie Arup set off to London for the three day school trip.  On the first day the RBAI party had some time to shop in Covent Gardens before meeting up with former pupil/fencing coach Christy Davis for dinner.  Christy is in his final year of studies at Oxford University so it was very good of him to take time out to meet up with the boys!  The next day began with an early train ride to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre for the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships.

In the Junior Foil event Paul Verdon and Theo Millar finished in the top 25 and Daragh Patterson finished in 9th place (out of 130 competitors in this category).

Furthermore; Ben Sloan, David Stewart, Michael Thompson and Ben Young were all reasonably well placed in the face of very strong competition from many of the large English school clubs.

Well done to all boys involved!
